Ralph Nader
Ralph Nader announced his candidacy for President this morning. I agree with Nader on almost everything, except for nuclear power. Nuclear power, along with wind and solar, needs to be the future of our energy use. What needs to be off the table is biofuels which will lead to deforestation, use of land needed for food production, and further soil depletion. This is not to say that a few people cannot heat their homes with woodstoves, but on a large scale this is a very bad idea. What needs to be stopped completely is the use of fossil fuels. They will continue to worsen the state of our atmosphere more and more the longer we use them.

I agree with you on biofuels. Bad idea! Unfortunately most of our cropland has already been lost in order to grow monocrops of corn that is turned into everything from batteries to cheap, food-like substances. Almost everything in the American diet is corn-based and is bad for you. The actually growing of this plant produces more greenhouse gases than all the cars in our country put together, it floods are water with nitrogen and has created deadzones in our waterways, the largest being in the Gulf of Mexico that is as big as Alaska. It is appalling. Predictably, biofuels in this country are made from, you got it, CORN. I agree that growing more corn is not a viable option and that we should be cutting government subsidies for corn and revert our farmland back to growing other crops that are more nutritious for us and less detrimental to our planet. Have you read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan?
